Making life better for students' at Buckinghamshire New University
Our Vision for 2010
- The Union will be the natural choice for all students' for support and representation and will be acknowledged by all students' as playing a central and relevant part in University life.
- The Union will be an appropriately resourced, competent organisation with a strong and effective culture.
- The University will have an exciting student experience that is rewarding, appealing, accessible to all and is largely free of charge.
By July 2010 the Bucks Students' Union will have achieved the following:
1. Representation
- Effective Represenation of our members at all key levels of the University, driven by a quality student course representation system.
- Campaigns that shape and change University life and make life better for our diverse membership.
- Relevant and timely advice and advocacy for all students.
2. Social Life
- Vibrant, value for money cafes and venues that provide excellent social space and a quality experience with a student led entertainments programme that reflects the diversity of our student population and is free to students.
- Be a key provider of arts and cultural activities for the local community.
- Spaces, resources and staff support that students use to develop their skills, express their own creativity and improve student life.
3. Student Activities
- Provide a diverse range of inspirational opportunities free for our members to take part in.
- 25% of the full time student body, reflective of its makeup will have taken part in student activities in the year.
- Champion involvement in student activities as an opportunity for students to discover, learn, achieve and grow as individuals and to celebrate pride in the Bucks student community.
4. Pride
- Students are not only interested in their own achievements but look around at their classmates and fellow students and take an active interest in both academic and recreational success.
- The Union will be a leader in communicating the achievements of our students and the progress of our Alumni.
- We will initiate traditions that celebrate our heritage and achievements.
5.Participation
- 2 in 5 students vote in Union elections, officer positions will be valued and sought after.
- Have a relevant and democratically legitimate governance structure that our students understand and use.
- Students and the University understand the value that the Union brings to the student experience and the impact made by the Union. All parties are aware of the consequential benefits of involvement such as employability and life skills, social life and wellbeing.
6. Healthy Organisation
- Have appropriate financial, human and physical resources to meet and fully support Union activities and services.
- Be a safe, legal, healthy and environmentally conscious students' union.
- A committed and highly motivate staff team to carry out the work of the Union, staff who are at ease with the challenges faced in a 'putting students' first' culture.
- A cycle of annual planning and review of our activities and services against the perception of our members.
- A culture of applying best practise from outside of the organisation.
7.Communication
We will have a clear communication strategy that supports the above objectives and fully informs our members about what we are trying to achieve.
