Venue Policy

I am about to come into an event why do I have to show my ID card?

BSU is committed to providing students with a quality social space and endeavour to be safe and inclusive. It also wants to offer Bucks New University students a complete package of services whilst they are at university.
When we run a student night at the bar we need to make sure that it is just that, a student night. This helps to create a more safe and inclusive social space and means that the event truly is yours. Additionally, for most events, we need to ensure that the people in the building are over 18. The quickest way of doing this is by the BNU card. As we know the names of all people carrying the BNU card who are under 18 we cover all our bases with this one card.

They know I am a student. Why do I have to pay if I forget my card?

You will always be asked for your ID card even if you know the door staff. This is because an independent observer needs to be confident that we are upholding our door policy. But the main reason is, how annoyed would you be if the person in front of you got in and for free without a card because he/she knew the stewards and you didn’t get in or had to pay because you didn’t know the staff.

What if friends visit?

If your friends from home pop down or maybe a brother/sister visits, then you can bring guests in on student nights. We currently have a policy of 2 non students per BNU student. It’s a simple case of signing them in on the door. They will have to pay for most events because simply we only have enough to subsidise BNU students coming into the events. Again we need to be sure that they are over 18 and so PLEASE make sure that they have valid age ID on them. Be aware that by signing them in you are responsible for their actions – so make sure that they are genuine guests of yours. By doing this it means that we can be sure that the people in our building are just there to have a good time with their fellow students.

Why do you shut the doors so early?

The door times at some of our events have varied over the years (particularly at our Chalfont campus) but from this year all of our popular club nights like ‘Flirt’  have a very last entry time of midnight. This is for a number of reasons. We have various obligations with the local Police and this is one of them. But It is also about wanting to create good events for our students, If we left doors open all night people would not show till much later and suddenly you lose the nights atmosphere. We of course want all our Students to gain entry on a night out, but we also have to stick to our venue policies.

I get searched by students working as stewards on the door – that’s not right is it?

As part of our commitment to being the safest venues for students in the area, it is necessary to ensure that nothing naughty is being brought into the venue. All of our stewards are professionally trained to national standards and additionally briefed by the local police. Our stewards probably wouldn’t choose to search you themselves, but lets be honest it is quick and easy and you will be into the event before you know it. To help, please don’t try and bring anything in you shouldn’t and if you have anything on you that you think will raise alarm bells tell the stewards on the door before you enter the foyer. Searching will take place whenever we feel necessary to do so.
